My father was a Commander in the U.S. Navy and spent quite a bit of time in India on military business when I was young. When he would return, and I would sit on his lap in his office, this is the smell I remember. The faint smell of exotic spices permeating his clothes, mixing with the scent of his pipe tobacco and the woody smell from hours he spent doing yard work.
